I am starting a new initiative to highlight the opportunities we see when we encourage incorporating Science and Technology within the Arts. I will be calling it stARTS. For now I will just put a pin in this with lehrers 'the elements'. More to come later #stARTS

I create my art using multiple media, in steps. I begin with a sketch which I slowly build, then repeated rotations between adding detail with a Wacom tablet, and then printed back out for more hand sketching. I often then transfer the sketch to art board at that point. I add oil paint glazing as appropriate for effect.
My compositions incorporate a human element to the subject of space, in a traditional, realistic form. I want to make the human connection, the emotion REAL. Art is a perfect way to share enthusiasm and effort, and how space exploration causes us to strive for our highest ideals, and test our boundaries as a joined humanity; not as separate peoples. Several of my pieces have been accepted for the juried Art of Planetary Science art show , frequented My art and illustrations have been featured in publications by Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, Times Publishing in Virginia, Feral Cat Publishing, and have frequently been featured in Trend & Tradition magazine. My art education includes CalArts (California Institute of the Arts) graphic design certificate, Art Techniques & Appreciation through Saylor Academy, and independent classes such as Narrative Concept Art instructed by Jama Jurabaev, a major artist for the film industry. Silenced Nevermore
has been selected for the juried art show "Art of Planetary Science" The show will be online at https://www.lpl.arizona.edu/art/home Sept 25-27 Come see wonderful art, much of it available for sale, #shevotes #womensrights #rbg #equalrights #humanstomars The first layer of color in, should move quickly from here.
Getting close! Plan on having a finished piece by the Anniversary on August 18! Still taking suggestions for a name
Pre-Orders will be available this week for the 100th Anniversary Women's Vote piece.
This will also be sold as a set with the Finding Opportunity piece honoring our Mars Rovers, when our Mars Rover Perseverance lands on Mars. So happy that Mars Rover Perseverance is ready to launch (as of this blog post) on July 30. Excited about a number things on 'Percy' but most excited about it being a test for creating oxygen on Mars!!!! Yes the helicopter is cool too ; )
But we have another exciting landmark event coming up - the 100th anniversary of women getting the right to vote! In honor of that I am pairing the release of "Finding Opportunity" piece (which honors our Mars Rovers) with a new piece honoring Women's right to vote. The piece is a hard-working woman at one of our future space colonies who has rushed in from work to vote at a Colony election. Not a fancy affair. With the small close knit community, these could likely turn out to be vote by hand in many cases. Any suggestions for a name for the piece? Beginning in July, all of my Patreon supporters will now gain access to monthly digital print downloads of selected pieces from my collection!
The month of June I will be in the end stages of a household move so things should be settling down and I can get back to work. I will be starting a special piece in honor of the 100th anniversary of Women's right to vote in the U.S. I also have in the works a special piece celebrating the launch of the Perseverance Rover, this will be a companion to my "Finding Opportunity" piece commemorating Opportunity Rover. Watch for updates and sneak peaks in coming days! BEST BLING EVER!!!! The 50th anniversary run for the Apollo 11 Moon Landing was great to participate in. What a great way to celebrate the landmark in human progress. Thanks Virtual Running Club!
#Apollo11, #Moonlanding Yesterday was the anniversary of the 1st spacewalk by an American Astronaut. Astronaut Ed White spent 23 minutes outside the space capsule, maneuvering back and forth from the capsule to the end of an 8 meter tether out in space. Ed White used a hand-held oxygen jet gun to propel himself.
When it was time to come back in to the spacecraft, he protested like a scolded kid. “I’m doing great,” he said. “It’s fun. I’m not coming in.” Edward Higgins White II, 34, finally did agree to squeeze himself back into his Gemini 4 ship, but lamented that having to come back in after experiencing the spacewalk, made it "the saddest day in my life" Here's a link to some free downloads of HD restored video footage of the Apollo 11 moon landing, courtesy of NASA
https://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/hd/apollo11_hdpage.html I just found this great detailed minute by minute timeline of the Apollo 11 moon landing, EVEN NOTES THE INSTANCES OF THE 1202 ALARMS!
https://www.history.nasa.gov/SP-4029/Apollo_11i_Timeline.htm This was a long time in the making... about a year since I started fleshing it out. Worked on it in fits and starts, but all in all it's one of my most satisfying pieces. Our Apollo era astronaut, in quiet thought, envisions where his efforts will eventually lead for humanity. Space stations rotating to create artificial gravity, and who knows what else. I think it's my most hopeful piece.
A sincere thank you to the IAAA for granting me membership in their group. I am honored.
For those who don't know,... "The IAAA is the world’s only guild of artists dedicated to creating images of space. We paint, draw, sculpt, blow glass, and move pixels to show galaxies, stars, planets, moons, anywhere that the imagination can go, but a camera cannot (yet!)." A quick rendering to salute those who have passed and those still with us, who were involved in the safe return of Apollo13! Definitely a moment of pride in the great history of NASA, and inspiration for all those who watched.

Artists Helping Artists - this is the one I most consistently listen to. Rubber hits the road type help on how to survive as an artist, especially regarding online presence Bobby Chiu - Chiustream - lots of great interviews and industry/craft insights Pencil Kings - Artist interviews that uncover the story behind their works The Collective Podcast by Ash Thorpe - interviews with creative industry leaders The Practical Creative Podcast - conversations with people who are actively making and doing creative work a Musing- conversations on creativity Art Café - open table discussions in the artist community The Not Starving Artist - interviews from all genres no words... I think that's how most people who appreciate rare beauty feel today.
Watching images and news about the fire that destroyed much of the cathedral was horrible for all of us. The sense of loss was palpable, especially for those who had visited Notre Dame in Paris. Now, in the morning after, I am consciously choosing to look forward to seeing people from all over combine, through effort, encouragement and resources, to rebuild what was lost. The final version of my Apollo 11 piece. View from Neil Armstrong's seat, his face/helmet reflected in the window of the Lunar Module as he looks out at the lunar landscaping zipping past. As he looks for a safe place to land, a fuel alarm is going off (he lands with only 16 seconds of fuel left) and a 1202 program alarm is going off indicating his navigation program is overloaded. It took a cool head at mission control to make the call that it was OK to proceed despite the 1202 alarm in this case.
